MaisonMK Marrakech Traditional Luxury Hotel Hidden Away in the Medina

The medina (old walled part of town) of Marrakech is a melting pot of original Moroccan culture with only a few tints of Western influence. The main square in the medina springs to life in the late afternoon with food stands, fire eaters, jugglers, snake charmers, and ancient story tellers. During the rest of the day it is a fascinating experience to discover the endless shops and markets in the city.

After exploring the city of Marrakech, the traveler experiences a desire for calm and peacefulness. Luckily, tranquility is only a stone’s throw away at the exceptional MaisonMK Guesthouse.

The owners, Paul & Aoibheann Hopkins, fell in love with the city of Marrakech in early 2006 and decided to create the ultimate boutique hotel. It took over 2 years to realize the contemporary, chic boutique hotel with six stunning luxurious suites. Each guest visit is catered to with extreme precision by the staff starting even before you arrive via email communication to help you prepare your trip, up to your Spa visit and to the wonderful GastroMK restaurant and handpicked music in your bedroom. The wonderful staff, location and architecture makes your stay very pleasant and unique.

We stayed in a spacious double room with a view on the swimming pool. During the evening the design and the lighting of the room complimented each other immensely. The bed has two types of pillows to choose from and the sheets are very comfortable to sleep in. To our surprise, each time when we returned to our room,  we found soft music playing in the background (iPod music station) and the aromatherapy oil burner candle gently flickering away – our room was filled with the scent of essential cinnamon & orange oils.

The bathroom is equipped with a bathtub, hairdryer and rainfall shower head, all matching perfectly with the ambience of the hotel.

We especially enjoyed the continental breakfast with delicious French press coffee and original Moroccan tea with the spectacular view in the background. The rooftop is high enough to comfortably gaze away at the stunning Koutoubia Mosque. During our stay we have spent countless hours on the rooftop drinking mint tea and enjoying life.

RoofNight

We had booked the evening pamper package for couples, which includes the spa treatments and dinner. When we arrived back in our room we found two baskets containing all wash clothes and oils for the Spa session. For couples the treatments are separate but each treatment is followed by a short break in which you can discuss your experience with each other. You will have lots to talk about. The 45 minute massage and Hamman treatment is a must do experience when in Morocco.

After our treatment we continued back to our room to change and went to the atrium to enjoy some homemade cake, together with a complimentary mint tea, by the pool.

We spent most of the evening on the roof, drinking fresh mint tea and chatting away about our experiences in Morocco. We were then invited down to the GastroMK restaurant for dinner.

A big treat awaited us as we were offered the private table in a room at the end of the restaurant. The area is intimate and dim lighted, it’s perfect for couples or a small group of friends with something big to celebrate. The restaurant features a fusion style that perfectly suits Morocco’s tastes; it’s a blend of the heavier flavors of Moroccan cuisine with the lighter options of Asian fare. We really enjoyed the salmon and the spicy cucumber ice cream. Even if you have already booked a stay somewhere else, it’s worth taking a trip down to the Maison for a treat.
